We are making biochar which is an organic fertilizer from waste biomass in Mafinga, Tanzania. Removing carbon and increasing the livelihoods of farmers through locally produced agricultural inputs.
This application is for a Technical Manager position at DECÂ as we are expanding our operations and are looking to bring on new talent to our team. As an applicant you should have a good understanding of MS-Office applications, Engineering and good command of both Swahili and English languages.
Position details
This position will be as the technical manager of the biochar pyrolysis plant and thus you will need to oversee the technical details of the plant under the supervision of the site general manager in Mafinga. You should have an understanding or experience in both mechanical and electrical systems.
Responsibilities
·        Management of technical team including electrical and mechanical technicians
·        Operational Oversight: Manage daily operations, ensuring efficiency and quality in biochar production.
·        Technical Expertise: Drive best practices, troubleshoot issues, and recommend technological upgrades.
·        Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to guarantee biochar meets set specifications.
·        Maintenance Management: Supervise preventive and corrective maintenance activities to ensure continuous operation.
·        Safety & Compliance: Uphold safety standards and ensure adherence to all regulatory guidelines.
·        Team Leadership: Mentor and manage the technical team, promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
·        Team Building assist in hiring and recruiting of other members of your technical team.
·        Budgeting: Monitor operational expenses and suggest cost-saving initiatives.
·        Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate with management, vendors, and external consultants about plant performance and needs.
·        Documentation: Keep technical documents updated and prepare periodic performance reports.
·        Project Oversight: Lead plant-related technical projects, ensuring timely and budget-compliant execution.
Qualifications
·        Bachelor’s degree minimum
5 years of experience in a similar technical role with supervisor management responsibilities
·        Computer skills with proficiency in MS Office
·        Strong problem solver, with hands-on approach to plan and execute well
·        Growth mindset and the ability to self-learn and teach others
