ABOUT AFAP

The African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP), founded in 2012, has its statutory headquarters in Newark, New Jersey, USA, and operational headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa. AFAP is a non-profit social enterprise focused on developing agricultural value chains, particularly inputs value chains. Specifically, AFAP supports African agri-SMEs, such as wholesalers of inputs (hub agro-dealers), in developing strong networks with input retailers (agro-dealers) and in strengthening their relationships with global and continentally active manufacturers and traders of fertilizer, seeds, crop protection products, and other soil health-related products.

AFAP currently operates offices in:

  • Southern Africa: Mozambique, Malawi, South Africa, and Zambia;
  • East Africa: Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda;
  • West Africa: Ghana and Nigeria.

ASSIGNMENT OVERVIEW AND OBJECTIVE

AFAP seeks an experienced Hub Agro Dealer Trainer to conduct capacity-building training for 48 Hub agro-dealers participating in the Fertilizer Trade Credit Guarantee Project. The objective is to enhance the skills and knowledge of these agro-dealers in managing working capital, stocks, selling and marketing, hub agrodealer risk management, business planning, and evolving roles in the Tanzanian agricultural sector.

ISSUES TO BE EXPLORED AND ANALYZED

The trainer will focus on the following training needs:

  • Managing Working Capital
  • Managing Stocks
  • Selling and Marketing
  • Hub Agrodealer Risk Management
  • Evolving Role of Agrodealers in Tanzania
  • Hub Agrodealer Business Planning
  • Managing Business Relationships

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Agronomy, Business Management, Finance, or related disciplines.
  • Minimum 3 years of practical experience in training and capacity building.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Tanzania’s agriculture input sub-sector.
  • General understanding of the fertilizer industry (products and practices) in Tanzania.
  • Proficiency in English and Swahili.
  • Experience working with international organizations.

REPORTING REQUIREMENTS

The consultant will submit a final report to AFAP, covering:

  • Introduction and Background
  • Profile of Participants
  • Feedback from Participants on Training
  • Methodology of Delivery and Highlights of Modules Delivered
  • Recommendations by Trainer and Participants
  • Annex: Participant List with Signatures

The report is due 15 days after the training delivery. The consultant must submit a technical and financial proposal by June 14, 2024.
